VIDEO: Saakashvili Struggles to Walk, Falls Short of Bed – CNN Releases Footage
American CNN television has aired footage featuring former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili at the Vivamed clinic. The released clips show Saakashvili struggling to walk and frequently falling in his hospital room.
The footage was provided by an American lawyer, who spoke during the broadcast about the former president's severe health issues. The clips are dated October 6 and 4 of the previous year, according to Novosti-Georgia.
In an interview with the television channel, lawyer Massimo D'Angelo noted that Saakashvili needs to be transferred for treatment as soon as possible due to the serious risk of irreversible processes in his body.
Former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who has been incarcerated, has been at the Vivamed clinic since May 12, 2022. On February 6 of this week, Tbilisi City Court Judge Giorgi Arveladze denied a request from Saakashvili's lawyers to postpone his punishment or release him on health grounds.
The day before, Saakashvili had reached out to the Public Defender's office of Georgia requesting independent medical consultation, stating that he has been feeling significantly worse in recent days.
The Georgian authorities, however, do not acknowledge Saakashvili's serious condition. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice insist that discussions regarding Saakashvili's health are part of a PR campaign, claiming that he is pretending, while an American company is lobbying for his release.
