French MEP Visits Blocked Road Linking Armenia and Artsakh

The Governor of Syunik, Robert Ghukasyan, met in Goris with François-Xavier Bellamy, a French Member of the European Parliament and head of the delegation from the "Les Républicains - LR" party. This was reported by the Syunik Regional Administration.

During the visit, the governor accompanied him to the border checkpoint on the road connecting Armenia and Artsakh, as well as to a meeting with Artsakh residents temporarily residing in Goris due to the road closure.

Officials also had a private conversation, during which the French guest learned about the situation in the region from Ghukasyan.

Mr. Bellamy is scheduled to speak in the European Parliament soon on the topic of the blockade of the Berdzor corridor and its consequences. He came to Syunik to personally witness the situation, expressing interest in both the borders of Syunik and the Armenia-Artsakh road.

Upon visiting the border checkpoint, he noted that the road is closed, and citizens are unable to pass through. Meanwhile, Artsakh residents living in Goris expressed to the MP their most cherished wish: to return to their homeland, despite the current severe socio-economic conditions and humanitarian crisis there.

According to Robert Ghukasyan, François-Xavier Bellamy's visit demonstrates that his country stands by the Armenian people. "This is a clear signal, as he is not the first official to visit Syunik. France is clearly signaling its support for Armenia at all levels," he stated.

The governor also gave an interview to French media accompanying the MP.
