34 Members of School Volleyball Team Found Dead in Turkey
In Adiyaman, Turkey, 34 members of the Famagusta school volleyball team, comprised of Turkish Cypriots, have been reported dead following an earthquake, according to the Cypriot publication Kathimerini. The bodies of the deceased were discovered in a hotel in the city, while searches continue for another team member.
In total, 47 Turkish Cypriots have fallen victim to the earthquake that struck Turkey. Previously, the families of the children had shared photos of the team to request help in searching for them.
On Monday morning, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred in southeastern Turkey. According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it is the strongest earthquake recorded since 1939. On the same day, another earthquake measuring 7.6 in magnitude was reported. As of the latest data, over 24,600 people have died. The tremors, which have been followed by hundreds of aftershocks, were felt across 10 provinces in the country and in neighboring regions, including Syria.
