Zakharova on Pashinyan's Statement
The representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, responded to a question regarding Nikol Pashinyan's statement about the EU mission, noting that if this was an attempt to justify the presence of EU representatives in Armenia, then this attempt is hardly successful.
“Russian peacekeepers ensure the peace of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, our border guards are working in Armenia, including along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. At the same time, we know Azerbaijan's critical attitude towards the EU in carrying out their civilian mission on the Armenian border,” said Zakharova.
She stated that Brussels has decided to change the security system that has been established in the region. “We are open to discussing with our Armenian partners the issue of maintaining stability in the Caucasus, both bilaterally and multilaterally, including within the CSTO framework,” remarked the Russian MFA representative.
It is worth recalling that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that prior to the decision for EU observers to arrive in Armenia, Azerbaijan constantly justified its aggressive actions against Armenia on western platforms by claiming that Armenia was deploying more and more Russian troops on the border with Azerbaijan, as it was preparing to carry out aggressive actions against Azerbaijan in cooperation with Russia, which led to Pashinyan's proposal.
