Founder of Sela Retailer Boris Ostrobrod Dies in Latvia

Boris Ostrobrod, the founder of the Sela retailer, drowned in a lake in Latvia. His cousin and business partner, Arkadi Pekarevsky, reported the news, as noted by Kommersant.ru.

Ostrobrod was 65 years old. In a post on his Facebook page, Pekarevsky shared, "A tragic incident. I was driving along the lake near my house in Latvia when the car skidded into the lake, overturned, and Borya drowned."

Ostrobrod and Pekarevsky founded Sela in 1991. The retail chain's first branded store opened in Saint Petersburg in 1997. In the summer of 2019, Melon Fashion Group acquired the company, which also owns Befree, Love Republic, and Zarina. By the end of 2021, the Sela network included 181 stores.
