Strong Earthquake of 5.4 Magnitude Hits Indonesia, Casualties Reported
A strong earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude has struck Indonesia's Papua province, resulting in four casualties. This information was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the provincial capital Jayapura's disaster mitigation agency.
“According to our data, we have confirmed the news of four deaths. We are still gathering information,” said Asep Khalid, head of the disaster mitigation agency.
Khalid also added that the effects of the earthquake were felt in the city of Jayapura, where residential buildings and government structures have been damaged. The tremors were recorded at 1:28 PM local time (09:28 AM Yerevan time), with the epicenter located 1 km southwest of Jayapura. The focus was at a depth of 10 km.
