Iran and Armenia will not allow the creation of a corridor, says Iranian ambassador in Armenia

In the context of regional developments, Iran and Armenia agree on issues such as the need to recognize international borders, the peaceful resolution of disputes, and the necessity of respecting the rights of the peoples of the region. This was stated today by Iran's ambassador to Armenia, Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, during a press conference.

According to him, the cooperation between the two countries has reached an unprecedented level, with almost all high-ranking officials of both countries meeting in the past year.

“The situation created due to problems along the Goris-Kapan route in the summer of 2021 was also a priority for us. The Armenian government made significant efforts to launch alternative routes, proving that we need secure roads. We hope that the transport route between Iran and Armenia will significantly change in the coming years,” noted the ambassador.

Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri pointed out that high-quality and convenient transport routes would allow the two countries to enhance their positions in the international arena. “The threat against the international transport route passing through Iran and Armenia will not only pose a threat to the interests of Iran and Armenia, but all stakeholders of the transport route will perceive it as a threat against themselves,” the ambassador emphasized.

He stated that understanding all of this, the elites of both countries must pursue the development of bilateral relations.

The ambassador highlighted, “There is certain cunning being observed, discussions about so-called corridors and some actions, but Iran and Armenia will not allow the creation of such a corridor.”

“We should not allow the initiative to originate from another side, while we merely respond to it. On the contrary, we must take the initiative ourselves and not just wait for some initiative regarding the opening of a corridor, and then think about what position to take and express it,” added the Iranian ambassador.
