How Fraudsters Embezzled 9,200,000 AMD Through Facebook: Arrests Made

Investigations have revealed incidents of particularly large-scale computer fraud conducted by a group of individuals in prearranged agreements. According to the information from the Investigative Committee’s Public Relations Department, based on the factual data gathered during the preliminary investigation, residents aged 34 from Yerevan and 31 from Ejmiadzin, in agreement with a number of other individuals, posed as employees of the 'Idram' LLC using various accounts registered under different names on the website Facebook.com.

By making false promises regarding bonuses or privileged statuses through the mentioned application and using other pretexts, they obtained necessary data to gain illegal access to the 'Idram' electronic wallets identified under the names of citizens. Consequently, they entered into 21 loan agreements without the knowledge or consent of the citizens involved and embezzled a total of 9,200,000 AMD confirmed by these agreements.

From August 2 to August 24, 2021, the individuals allegedly committing this crime executed computer fraud by unlawfully entering computer data without legal, contractual, or otherwise permitted grounds in order to secure financial means through unlawful channels, while taking measures to ensure their mutual non-disclosure.

Based on sufficient evidence collected, charges have been filed against the two men aged 31 and 34, who have been taken into custody as a preventive measure. The case concerning these two individuals has been separated for a specific proceeding, and the preliminary investigation has been completed. The criminal proceedings have been referred to the prosecutorial authority responsible for oversight, for approval and transmission to the court.

The investigation is ongoing to identify and locate other individuals involved in the alleged criminal activity.
