Fitch Ratings estimates the damage in Turkey and Syria to be around $4 billion. The agency also notes that the actual extent of the damage could be greater.
As of February 6, the death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has reached 19,332, with thousands more injured. The most recent data indicates that the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 that struck Turkey on the night of February 6 has resulted in 16,170 fatalities. In Syria, the death toll has reached 3,162.
In total, the number of casualties from the earthquakes now exceeds 19,000.
