Armen Charchyan Stripped of Parliamentary Immunity
The National Assembly of Armenia, through a secret ballot, stripped Armen Charchyan, a member of the "Armenia" faction and former director of the Izmirlian Medical Center, of his parliamentary immunity. This decision allows for potential public criminal prosecution against him.
It is worth noting that the request against Charchyan was presented in the parliament by the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia, Anna Vardanyan.
Out of 107 members, 68 participated in the vote on lifting the parliamentary immunity. 67 voted in favor, while there were no votes against or abstentions; one ballot was deemed invalid.
According to the request presented by Vardanyan, Charchyan allegedly provided a clearly false conclusion regarding the criminal case, which had particularly severe consequences for the accused, resulting in the death of Arthur Sargsyan (known as "Bread Giver"). Vardanyan stated that the deputy, as a double medical board expert, gave a favorable conclusion for detention due to Sargsyan's health condition, despite the fact that the suspect's illness was on the list of diseases incompatible with detention.
Additionally, on February 8, the parliament also stripped the head of the "Armenia" faction, Seyran Ohanyan, of parliamentary immunity.
