Truth is More Important than Punishment: Pashinyan on Ohanyan and Charchyan Cases

During today’s session of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed ongoing criminal cases that have exceeded their statute of limitations. He raised the question of why these cases have not been investigated more quickly, referencing the motions presented by the Prosecutor General against members of the 'Armenia' faction, Seyran Ohanyan and Armen Charchyan.

Earlier, it was reported that Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan had submitted motions for public criminal prosecution against Seyran Ohanyan and Armen Charchyan.

“One side delayed for half an hour, then there was the weather, then the holidays had to pass, and we will see what the internal political situation is like. But if nothing changes, we will present everything regarding COVID,” Pashinyan stated. “There is also a question regarding the statute of limitations. They say, if there is no criminal punishment, what is the point in initiating a criminal case? Ultimately, the truth is more important than punishment,” he added.

According to Pashinyan, establishing the truth as a legal record is necessary, as it will inevitably lead to consequences.

It is noteworthy that the National Assembly of Armenia deprived Seyran Ohanyan of parliamentary immunity today, while the vote regarding Armen Charchyan is scheduled for tomorrow's session.
