Price of Unblocking Roads Increased for Us, Says Nikol Pashinyan

The opening of communications in the region, particularly the opening of the Armenia-Azerbaijan railway and highways, will significantly increase trade with EAEU and non-EAEU countries. This statement was made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly.

"We are interested in this matter and again express our readiness to implement the provisions of the November 9 agreement. There is an impression that everyone wants these roads to open, and we are resisting. No, on the contrary, we are the ones who want these roads to open the most, and others are resisting," said the Prime Minister.

According to him, it is Armenia that has been under blockade for 30 years, and no other state has a greater need for these roads than we do, as Azerbaijan and Turkey have alternatives to all routes.

"Since everyone understands that we need these roads the most, they are trying to increase the price for us for opening these roads. We say that we must implement what is stated in the trilateral statement," added Pashinyan.

He reminded that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that there is no word 'corridor' in the trilateral agreement and that he introduced this narrative himself.

Pashinyan added that Armenia is ready to start the unblocking of communications as early as tomorrow.

It should be noted that on January 11, 2021, a meeting took place in Moscow between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan.
