VIDEO. New Footage from Turkey: State of Emergency Declared in 10 Provinces for 3 Months
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has made a statement regarding the earthquake. According to Turkish Milliyet, President Erdoğan announced that a state of emergency has been declared in 10 provinces affected by the earthquake for a duration of 3 months, emphasizing that the earthquake has impacted 13.5 million people.
Erdoğan stated that there has never been a case in the world where two different earthquakes occur at very close distances, at the same depth of 7 km, and with a minimal time difference. He recalled that the 7.7 magnitude earthquake near Pazarcık, Marash occurred at 04:17, while the 7.6 magnitude quake near Elbistan, Malatya struck at 13:24.
It should be noted that on the morning of February 6, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake was registered in the vicinity of Pazarcık, near the city of Marash, at 04:17 local time. Aftershocks have occurred nearly 42 times, with the strongest recorded at 6.6 magnitude. Later, another earthquake was recorded at 7.6 magnitude.
A seven-day mourning period has been declared in Turkey.
