VIDEO: I believe the time has come to strip Piloyan of the title ‘National Hero’ – Simonian
National Assembly President Alen Simonian is confident that everyone is equal before the law, even those in uniform. “If someone has a uniform or has supporters, or those who give them orders have given them different titles, that does not mean they are not equal under the law. We are all equal before the law,” he said during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly while discussing the proposals to initiate criminal proceedings against Seyran Ohanian.
Regarding the title of 'Hero of the Fatherland' for Ohanian, the NA President stated that this assessment should be given by the people.
Alen Simonian also addressed a journalist's remark that “you also have a hero of the fatherland who is in prison.” The journalist clarified that it concerns Andranik Piloyan. In response to the question, Alen Simonian stated that it is time to strip him of the title of ‘National Hero.’ “I believe the time has come to revoke his title and review the institution of granting the title of ‘National Hero,’ and to understand whether those individuals who will later receive a verdict will continue to hold the title of ‘National Hero.’ I think when a legally valid verdict is in force, they should not have the title,” added the NA President.
It should be noted that former Minister of Emergency Situations Andranik Piloyan is accused of participating in corrupt dealings.
