Over 160 Significant Earthquakes Recorded in Turkey in the Last 39 Hours
According to the European Seismological Centre, more than 160 significant earthquakes have been recorded in central Turkey since the first powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7. This was reported by РИА Новости.
On Tuesday at 18:48 local time (19:48 Yerevan time), yet another earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude was registered in the central region of Turkey. “This is the 165th earthquake felt in central Turkey in the last 39 hours,” the Centre stated on its Twitter.
On the morning of February 6, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Turkey, which, according to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was the most powerful since 1939. Another earthquake occurred on Monday afternoon with a magnitude of 7.6.
The death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey has surpassed 4,500, with more than 20,000 injured, according to the latest data. Erdoğan has declared a seven-day national mourning period in Turkey, and a three-month state of emergency has been proclaimed across 10 provinces affected by the disaster.
