Armenian Singer Zilan Tigris and Her Husband Trapped Under Rubble; One of Their Children Dies in Hospital

In Turkey, following the powerful earthquake on February 6, Armenian singer Zilan Tigris and her husband, Chaghdash Chankayan, are reported to be trapped under rubble in Diyarbakir (Tigranocerta). This information was shared by UdY Yervandi, an Armenian artist from Tigranocerta, on Facebook, according to Akunq.net.

“According to the source, Zilan Tigris and her husband are yet to be rescued from the debris. The Center for Western Armenian Studies expresses hope that they will be found safe and healthy,” the report states.

Zilan Tigris was born in 1972 in Tigranocerta and has Armenian roots on both her maternal and paternal sides. The Armenian singer participated in the “Ari Tun” program organized by the Ministry of Diaspora of Armenia in August 2015, during which she visited Armenia along with 85 other Armenians.

Earlier reports indicated that two Armenians, a couple, lost their lives due to the earthquake in Malatya, Turkey, with one of their young children also having died in the hospital.
