Nothing has changed - I still consider myself Russian: Gérard Depardieu
French actor Gérard Depardieu, who holds a Russian passport, has stated that he has not ceased to love Russian culture despite the special military operation in Ukraine. He made this remark in an interview with the German newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine.
Last year, Depardieu opposed the Russian special operation and declared that all proceeds from his three concerts in April would be used to help the people of Ukraine. The artist emphasized that almost a year later, nothing has changed; he still considers himself Russian and loves Russia's culture.
“If I love a country, then I am always an advocate of that country's culture,” said Depardieu. He admitted that he tries to avoid speaking about the war, as few can say anything reasonable about it. At the same time, Depardieu highlighted that politics and acting should not be mixed and that the war is “a great absurdity.”
