Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Calls for Immediate Cessation of Mockery Towards Saakashvili and His Hand Over to Ukraine
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry describes the treatment of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili by the authorities of Georgia as inhumane and urges Tbilisi to hand him over to Kyiv. Earlier, Saakashvili's family members and representatives of the opposition "United National Movement" party reported that due to a serious health condition, Saakashvili was being transferred to the intensive care unit. However, later the director of the Vivamed clinic, where the politician is being treated, refuted this information.
According to a statement published on the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's website, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses strong protest against the inhumane treatment of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili, who is being held behind bars in Georgia... We call on the Georgian authorities to immediately cease mocking Mikheil Saakashvili and to hand him over to Ukraine." The ministry also urged international organizations to "publicly defend the Ukrainian citizen."
