The Netherlands Continues Efforts for Reopening the Lachin Corridor

During the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting held on January 23, the Netherlands and several other EU countries expressed concern regarding the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, noting that the Lachin Corridor has been closed since December 12, 2022, by Azerbaijani self-proclaimed 'eco-activists'. This statement was made by the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs in his report to Parliament.

As reported by the Federation of Armenian Organizations in the Netherlands, the Foreign Minister emphasized that the Lachin Corridor is the only route connecting Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Dutch government continues to take steps to urge EU member states to issue a joint call to Azerbaijan for the reopening of the Lachin Corridor, in accordance with the trilateral statement of 2020. Additionally, it is exploring other possible avenues within European frameworks to urge the Azerbaijani authorities to open the Lachin Corridor.

The Netherlands has also expressed its support for the activities of the EU civilian mission in Armenia and is examining ways to contribute to its efforts.
