Citizens of Armenia and Georgia Will Be Able to Cross the Border with ID Cards After Agreement Ratification

The simplified border crossing agreement with Armenia has come into effect in Georgia. The decision was published in the official bulletin of Georgia.

Citizens of Armenia and Georgia can cross the border without a passport, using only an identification card.

The Armenian Embassy in Georgia responded to media reports that created the impression that it was already possible to cross the border with an identification card. "On January 27, information was spread in the media about the ratification of the agreement on mutual visa-free travel for citizens of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia by Georgia, which is expected to allow citizens of Armenia and Georgia to cross the Armenian-Georgian border with identification (ID) cards. We inform you that this concerns the ratification of the agreement by Georgia. The agreement will come into effect after the completion of the internal ratification process in the Republic of Armenia," the statement said.

It should be recalled that the agreement on visa-free travel between Armenia and Georgia was signed on January 12 during the visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to Armenia.
