Trump Discredits US Intelligence by Praising Putin
Former US President Donald Trump has stated that he trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin more than the "losers" in American intelligence, as quoted by Newsweek from his message on the social media platform Truth Social.
In his message, Trump referred to his comments made after his 2018 meeting with Putin in Helsinki, where he claimed he saw no reason for Russia to interfere in the 2016 elections, despite allegations from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“Remember a reporter in Helsinki who asked me whom I trust more, President Putin or our ‘intelligence’ guys? At the time, I felt that we had some very bad people — in the form of James Comey, McCabe (whose wife was being helped by crooked Hillary),” the publication quoted Trump.
Trump then asked readers whom they would choose — Putin or “these losers”?
Russia has repeatedly denied US accusations of interfering in its affairs, including meddling in the US elections. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov called the claims “absolutely unfounded.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, while discussing supposed Russian interference in elections in various countries, stated that there is no evidence to support that.
