Road Department Addresses Snow Removal Failures and Current Road Conditions

This morning, a challenging situation developed on several highways in Armenia due to snow and black ice. Citizens were struggling to drive without obstruction, leading to massive traffic jams and hazardous conditions.

Auroranews received reports about impassable conditions on the Yegvard-Yerevan highway. According to information we received, patrols have been pouring sand by hand on the icy sections of the road to enable vehicles to pass.

We also gathered information from the Ashtarak-Yerevan and Abovyan-Yerevan highways, where traffic was rendered impossible due to ice.

We contacted the Road Department of Armenia to understand why these critical republican and interstate roads were not being serviced. They informed us that the contractor responsible for cleaning the Ashtarak region’s interstate and republican roads, “M-Buat” LLC, had failed to adequately clear the roads or apply salt and sand during the snowfall, disrupting traffic on certain sections of the road.

According to the Road Department, forces from nearby contractor organizations have been mobilized to clear snow and treat the affected highways.

In our conversation, the Road Department also mentioned that legal sanctions would be imposed on the organization servicing the Ashtarak region.

“As for the Yegvard-Yerevan republican highway, snow removal operations are currently underway there,” the department stated.
