Peskov on Conditions for Easing U.S. Sanctions

The Kremlin sees no new developments in the statements made by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland regarding the conditions for easing sanctions, as diplomatic options for conflict resolution remain unclear. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the President of Russia.

Nuland, speaking before the U.S. Senate on Thursday, stated that Washington is prepared to ease sanctions against Moscow in exchange for serious negotiations regarding Ukraine and the withdrawal of Russian troops from there.

“No, nothing is visible from Ms. Nuland's words. We are not at all inclined to exaggerate their significance; nothing new has been said,” Peskov responded when asked if these words could be interpreted as a move towards the conflict negotiation process.

Peskov also noted that Nuland's statements about Russia reflect a lack of maneuverability and flexibility in Washington's actions.

“Virtually repeated a number of theses that indicate the U.S. position's lack of maneuverability and flexibility, which, in turn, is diametrically opposed to our position,” Peskov stated in response to whether Nuland's statements could be seen as a step towards the negotiation process.
