Husband Ordered Acid Attack to Mutilate Wife's Face
According to the investigative actions conducted by the Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia in the Armavir region, the circumstances surrounding an attempted acid attack by a 32-year-old man against a 41-year-old woman from Echmiadzin have been revealed.
The investigation has obtained information indicating that a resident of Shirak region, a 32-year-old man, attempted to disfigure the face of his 41-year-old wife with sulfuric acid, at the behest of a 42-year-old resident of Vagharshapat and organized by a 43-year-old resident of the same city, in exchange for money. To carry out the order, the 32-year-old man took a syringe filled with sulfuric acid and visited the 41-year-old woman’s residence multiple times in October 2022 but was unable to execute the crime due to the woman's absence on one occasion and his subsequent arrest by police on another.
During a personal search, the police found the syringe filled with solution in the man's possession. As a result of the proceedings regarding the attempted acid attack, final charges have been filed against the 32-year-old man under the Armenian Criminal Code articles 43-166, parts 2, clauses 6, 7, and 9. A motion has been submitted to the Court of General Jurisdiction of Armavir Region to select pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint against the 32-year-old man, which has been granted. The preliminary investigation in this segment has concluded, and the materials of the criminal case have been sent to the court with an accusatory conclusion.
Investigative and evidence-gathering, as well as operational-search measures regarding the other portion of the criminal case still in the preliminary investigation phase, continue. The 42-year-old resident of Vagharshapat has been charged for organizing and facilitating the attempt to inflict serious bodily harm on his close relative, his wife, while the 43-year-old resident has been charged for ordering this criminal act. Additionally, the 43-year-old is also accused of illegal circulation of large quantities of narcotics.
Furthermore, the prosecuting body has submitted a motion to the court to apply detention as a measure for the two persons mentioned, which has been denied, after which the 43-year-old resident allegedly committed another criminal act. Several other crimes, including an attempt to set fire to a vehicle, illegal circulation and sale of large quantities of narcotics, and the theft of several packs of cigarettes from a grocery store in Vagharshapat, are also under investigation in other connected proceedings. The preliminary investigation in this regard continues.
