Georgian and Armenian Parliaments Have Not Yet Approved Border Crossing Law with ID Cards

The parliaments of Georgia and Armenia have not yet approved the law that would allow citizens to cross the border using biometric identification (ID) cards. This was reported by Aliq.ge.

It is noteworthy that after the meeting of the intergovernmental economic commission between Georgia and Armenia, the Prime Ministers of both countries signed a document that simplifies the visa regime further.

Let us remind you that the work on the agreement began back in 2020. The memorandum of intent on facilitating the movement of citizens between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of Georgia was signed in March 2020 in Tbilisi.

The decision is said to be based on the number of visits between the two countries. According to the National Tourism Administration of Georgia, the number of visits from Armenia to Georgia was about 562,000 in 2011, while by 2019, this number had risen to 1,365,000. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of visits from Armenia to Georgia significantly decreased.
