Passenger Attacks Travelers with Knife on Train in Germany, Casualties Reported
In a suburban train in northern Germany, two people have died and five others have been injured following a knife attack. This was reported on Wednesday by the DPA news agency, citing Sabine Sütterlin-Waack, the head of the Ministry of the Interior of the Schleswig-Holstein federal state.
According to her, the train was traveling from Kiel to Hamburg. At the same time, the minister added that an arrest had taken place. The attack reportedly occurred shortly before the arrival of the train at Brokstedt station in the Steinburg district (Schleswig-Holstein) around 3:00 PM (6:00 PM Yerevan time).
A representative of law enforcement told Bild newspaper, “A passenger on the regional train traveling from Kiel to Hamburg attacked with a knife, injuring at least five people and killing two.” One more person is currently in critical condition.
According to reports, the perpetrator was a native of Syria. The police have taken him into custody in Brokstedt. The motives behind the crime are still unclear.
Police officers and emergency services have arrived at the scene. A large part of the train station is cordoned off. Intercity train services between Hamburg and Kiel have been suspended due to the incident.
