North Korea Screens Documentary on 'Unprecedented' Victory Against Covid

The Central Television of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) screened a documentary on Monday highlighting the achievements of the People's Republic in combating the coronavirus pandemic in 2022. This was reported on Tuesday by the South Korean Yonhap news agency.

“The threat of the harmful virus infiltrating our country was a concern, but a greater issue was the weak infrastructure of healthcare and quarantine facilities. We had to navigate through an unprecedented crisis when the economy was severely affected by the two-year-long global crisis caused by the virus,” the film states.

The filmmakers referred to the period of COVID-19 spread in the DPRK as the biggest “challenge since the founding of the state.” At the same time, the documentary emphasizes that the country managed to overcome the coronavirus in about 80 days, characterizing this success as a “miracle for the entire planet” and an “unprecedented event” for the People’s Republic.

On May 12, 2022, the Korean Central News Agency first reported the detection of coronavirus infections within the DPRK. On August 10, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced victory over the coronavirus.
