Suspect in California Shooting Found Dead

In California's Monterey Park, the suspect of a shooting has been found dead inside a stolen pick-up truck, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Multiple law enforcement sources have informed the publication that the driver died from a gunshot wound.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna later stated that investigators confirmed the man found in the pick-up truck is the same person suspected of orchestrating the mass shooting in Monterey Park. According to him, the suspect is 72-year-old Hu Can Tran.

“We have not yet established the motive,” Luna told reporters. “The investigation is ongoing. (...) We want to understand how something so horrific could happen,” he added.

Luna further mentioned that the search of the pick-up truck revealed several pieces of evidence linking the suspect to the shooting incident at Monterey Park.

“Additionally, a firearm was discovered inside the truck,” the sheriff stated.

Earlier on Sunday, law enforcement sources told CNN that police were attempting to stop a white pick-up truck, whose driver was believed to be involved in the California shooting that resulted in ten fatalities.

The man reportedly opened fire during Lunar New Year celebrations in Monterey Park, California. The park is located about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, where there is a significant Asian community.
