Number of defendants in September aggression case reaches 16, over 1500 witnesses interrogated
The number of defendants in the case of the September 2022 aggression has reached 16. This was reported by Lurern, noting that preventive measures have been taken for 6 of them, including detention, while the others are subject to a prohibition on leaving the country.
“Six of the mentioned criminal proceedings have already been completed and have been sent to the court with an accusatory conclusion, while the investigation continues in the other cases,” said the Head of the Department for Supervision over the Conduct of Investigations of the Investigative Committee, Pergch Aivazyan.
Aivazyan did not specify the charges against the defendants but indicated that they mainly relate to non-fulfillment of official duties during combat, failure to report to the place of service in order to evade service, and violations of combat service regulations.
In total, 22 proceedings have been initiated regarding the actions of the Armenian Armed Forces, while 24 proceedings have been initiated regarding the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Armenia in September, which are being examined as one case.
“During the preliminary investigation, over 600 individuals have been recognized as victims and interrogated, including relatives of the deceased. More than 1500 witnesses have been interrogated,” Aivazyan stated.
