I Have Received Several Alerts; I Demand the Police to Avoid the Use of Excessive Force – Taguhi Tovmasyan
Taguhi Tovmasyan, the chairwoman of the Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Armenia, wrote on her social media page:
“For about an hour, over 3,000 citizens have gathered in front of the former Ministry of Defense building on the Yerevan-Gyumri highway, blocking the road and demanding an explanation for why the electrical supply to the former Ministry of Defense building has been cut off by the Geghard Electric network.
During this time, I have received several alerts regarding violations of the rights of citizens raising their voices in protest. In the morning, I will address letters to the relevant authorities regarding the rights protection of the detained individuals and the demands presented by the protesting citizens.
I demand the Armenian police to refrain from using excessive force and to guide any actions by considering the best interests of the citizens,” Tovmasyan wrote.
