Police Officers Arrested on Suspicion of Demanding and Receiving Bribes from Over 20 Drivers

The Internal Security Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, based on materials received and operational-investigative measures conducted by the Anti-Corruption Committee, has initiated a criminal case under Article 435, Part 2, Subparagraphs 1 and 3 of the RA Criminal Code regarding alleged crimes committed by officials of the Police of Armenia for receiving bribes, as reported by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.

Specifically, evidence has been gathered in the criminal case indicating that traffic police officers N. T., R. N., and G. E. demanded and received bribes from over 20 drivers in exchange for not issuing administrative offense reports for violations of traffic rules. The amounts received ranged from 5,000 to 20,000 AMD.

On January 19, 2023, traffic police officers G. E. and R. N. were detained on suspicion of accepting bribes by the investigator of the Anti-Corruption Committee. On January 20, 2023, another traffic officer, N. T., was also arrested on the same suspicion.

An investigation is currently underway, with necessary operational-investigative measures being taken, as well as investigative and procedural actions aimed at establishing the full extent of the alleged crimes and the individuals involved.
