Hamlet's Mother Was Deceased, He Was a Year-Long Serviceman: Martuni Vice Mayor on the Soldier Who Died in the Fire

This morning, 15 servicemen died as a result of a fire that broke out at a military unit located in the village of Azat in the Gegharkunik region. Among them was Hamlet Davtyan, from Martuni, who was an orphan on one side. This was reported in a conversation with "Pestination" by the deputy mayor of Martuni, Vahagn Davtyan.

“Hamlet was from Martuni, he was a year-long serviceman and was an orphan on one side. He joined the Armenian Armed Forces after school. He was a child from a very good family; I personally interacted with him and know his family,” said the vice mayor.

Upon learning of the news, employees from the Martuni City Hall and military recruitment office informed the relatives of the deceased. “I have even been to the morgue, the relatives came and recognized him. It's a very cruel thing; I sympathize with everyone,” noted Davtyan.

According to him, Hamlet was the only son in the family, while both of his sisters are married. His father is engaged in seasonal work.

It is worth recalling that the fire broke out on January 19 at around 1:30 AM under still undefined circumstances in the barracks of the engineering subdivision of the Armed Forces of Armenia located in the vicinity of the village of Azat in the Gegharkunik region. As a result of the fire, 15 servicemen lost their lives, and the condition of 3 servicemen is assessed as serious.
