All Our Military Units are Under Azerbaijani Targeting, Which is Why Troops Have Been Withdrawn – CP MP

After the 44-day war, all our military units are under Azerbaijani targeting and have been targeted, which is why our troops have been withdrawn from the units and deployed to various settlements. One of those settlements was where the engineering unit, which experienced the recent fire, was stationed. This was stated by Gurgen Melkonyan, a member of the CP faction, in an interview with "Pashininfo" when asked how well the quarters allocated to the unit met the required standards.

“In the settlements where the military units are located, there are buildings, there are apartments that had been adapted for that specific unit to live in, but the conditions for fire safety services, which should have done everything to prevent such incidents, have been lacking, they have failed, been negligent, and they must face appropriate punishment; everyone has been negligent,” noted the CP MP.

According to Melkonyan, for example, the command of the unit, the brigade command, and the battalion command each should have checked whether there were fire protection measures in place, whether fire extinguishers were present, and whether sand was filled in the corresponding boxes. Melkonyan is also surprised by the presence of bars installed on the windows of the quarters, which the relevant authorities did not notice or record in a timely manner.

“The doors that should open outward opened inward, the stove should not have been in the sleeping area but in the foyer, and there are many such things that are regulated in the army. However, there should have been supervision to ensure that such things did not occur. Each person who was supposed to carry out their service didn’t do so, they have been negligent,” remarked Melkonyan.

When asked whom he meant by the relevant authorities, Melkonyan mentioned that there are 7-8 services in the army responsible for oversight and listed some of them.

“There is a fire service, there is a troop service, a rear service, a command service, and each should have acted in their capacity; it is not just one service that bears the responsibility,” he said. When asked about the state's share of guilt in the tragic incident, Melkonyan gave a vague answer, saying only, “Isn’t that army the state’s? Aren’t the army services part of the state? Is it some private individual?”
