The West Must Do More to Prevent Another Genocide: The Times

The region of Nagorno-Karabakh, home to 120,000 Armenians, has been effectively besieged after a group of Azerbaijani individuals in civilian clothing closed the Lachin corridor, the only route connecting the area to the outside world. This was stated by Lord Darzi, director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London, in a prestigious article in The Times.

“Food, medicine, and essential supplies are now severely lacking. Typically, 400 tons of supplies were delivered daily via the corridor from Armenia. While the Russian soldiers deployed as peacekeepers have proven unable or unwilling to lift the blockade, human rights organizations are warning of genocide if the situation is not resolved.

The blockade of the Lachin corridor has been condemned by the international community, including the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Canada, and the EU. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that it is “unacceptable to create problems for the civilian population,” but rejected criticisms directed at the peacekeeping forces.

Just before the invasion of Poland and the planned annihilation of Europe's Jewish population, Hitler remarked, “Who remembers the extermination of the Armenians today?” If we, as members of the international community, do not raise our voices against acts of genocidal violence, wherever it may occur, the perpetrators will grow brazen, and the cycle of impunity will continue,” he wrote.
