Individuals Holding 'Highly Confidential' Information Must Notify NSS Before Traveling Abroad

Individuals who possess access to state secrets deemed of "special importance" and "highly confidential" information are now required to notify the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia before traveling to a foreign country for private visits.

The draft law and the accompanying package of legislative proposals were approved today in the first reading at a session of the National Assembly. Despite the opposition from the "Hayastan" parliamentary group, the decision was accepted with 69 votes in favor, 32 against, and 1 abstention.

It should be noted that, according to the package of proposals, it is also suggested to tighten criminal liability for the publication of state secrets. For example, those who publish information marked as "secret" will now face administrative penalties.
