Details on the Murder at the 'Meymandar' Market: Investigative Committee

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting investigatory and evidence-gathering actions within the framework of a criminal case initiated based on Article 155, Part 1, and Article 167, Part 2, Clause 8 of the Armenian Criminal Code, regarding the murder of one individual and bodily harm to another at the so-called 'Meymandar' rural goods market.

On January 15, 2023, at 19:05, a report was received indicating that a murder had occurred at the mentioned rural goods market located in the administrative territory of the village of Gay, Armavir Province. On the same day, at 20:20, a report was received from the Vagharshapat Medical Center stating that a 28-year-old man had been admitted with knife wounds.

An examination of the scene was conducted, and items of significance to the investigation were seized. Numerous individuals have been interrogated, and forensic medical examinations have been commissioned. As a result of intense investigatory and operational activities, it was established that during a dispute over domestic issues at the rural goods market, a 56-year-old resident of the village of Jrarat struck a 49-year-old man with a knife, unlawfully taking his life, and also stabbed the person who was transported to the medical center. After the incident, he fled the scene.

Thanks to urgent actions, the 56-year-old resident of Jrarat has been arrested. The preliminary investigation continues.

Notice: The accused individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures defined by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia and by a legally binding court verdict.
