Turkey Offers Reward for Information on Former NBA Player Critical of Erdoğan

The Turkish authorities have announced a reward of 10 million Turkish lira (about 500 thousand dollars) for information leading to the arrest of former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom. The American-Turkish basketball player is a fierce critic of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The 30-year-old Freedom has been designated as a member of a terrorist organization and is officially wanted. He is included on the Turkish Ministry of Interior's 'gray list,' which identifies wanted terrorists.

“This makes the situation very dangerous. Previously, Turkish intelligence had been hunting people on the list, but after the announcement of the reward, everyone will be hunting for them,” Freedom stated, as quoted by The New York Post.

The Turkish authorities revoked Freedom’s passport in 2017 and attempted to deport him from Romania. Following that, the basketball player obtained U.S. citizenship.
