New Investigations Opened Regarding Biden's Classified Documents

The House Judiciary Committee, controlled by Republicans, has initiated a new investigation into the handling of classified documents at the think tank of Democratic President Joe Biden and at Biden's home during his vice presidency from 2008 to 2016. This was reported on Friday by The Hill.

It notes that committee chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland informing him of the start of the proceedings and also requested documents related to the court's decision on appointing a special counsel to investigate Biden's documents. Additionally, Republicans are seeking documents and data regarding the Justice Department's, FBI's, and White House's collaboration on the appointment of a special prosecutor. They expect to obtain this by January 27.

Previously, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, also controlled by Republicans, had launched its own investigation into Biden's classified documents. Some Republicans are convinced that the White House deliberately concealed this incident ahead of last year’s midterm elections, which took place on November 8.

On Thursday, Garland announced the appointment of former U.S. Attorney Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate Biden's mishandling of classified documents. As the Attorney General explained, his department received information about the discovery of those documents in Biden's related think tank office on November 4 of last year, and on December 20, the department learned about the existence of such documents at Biden's home. The materials in question pertain to the time when Biden was Vice President of the United States.
