Death Toll Rises in Philippines Due to Flooding
At least 20 people have died and one is missing due to flooding in the Philippines. According to a report released on Saturday by the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, over 552,100 individuals have been affected by adverse weather conditions across 13 provinces of the country.
According to agency data, 80,000 displaced people are currently in 127 evacuation centers. At least 9,200 people have left their homes, and eight citizens have sustained injuries of varying degrees. The disaster-related incidents have reached 905 in 12 provinces, including floods and landslides.
The calamities have damaged 1,130 houses, resulting in losses amounting to 2.4 million pesos (approximately $43,600). The damage to 151 infrastructure projects is estimated at 171.2 million pesos ($3.11 million), while the agricultural sector is facing losses of 283.3 million pesos ($5.15 million).
Flooding has affected 171 roads and 44 bridges, with 24 seaports also impacted. Power outages have been recorded in 42 cities, but electricity has been restored in 28, while seven communities are facing water supply issues, and some are experiencing communication problems.
Classes have been suspended in 486 cities and 113 municipalities, impacting educational institutions and businesses. A state of emergency has been declared in 30 localities. The government has already allocated 32.3 million pesos ($589,200) for assistance.
