Statement of the Supreme Body of the ARF on Criminal Cases Against Party Members
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) strongly condemns the actions taken by the Investigation Committee on August 25 regarding initiated criminal proceedings under part 2 of Article 236 of the RA Criminal Code. This includes the search of homes and the detention and questioning of party members and supporters. Such reports contain apparent false information and violations of the law, once again proving that the purpose of this fabricated case is to divert public attention from the treasonous plans of the current political authority and to suppress those who oppose them.
This statement was issued by the Supreme Body of the ARF of Armenia.
By violating the presumption of innocence and attempting to cover up its illegalities, the Investigation Committee is trying to create the illusion among the public that, as a result of the conducted searches, it has “revealed” that individuals opposing the treasonous authorities participated in gatherings for material gain. This is not only an insult to those fighting for the homeland, but also aims to discredit that struggle, the “Armenia Alliance,” and the ARF, to create grounds for new arrests and to carry out imprisonments against clearly illegal detainees.
The dissemination of information by law enforcement agencies that does not correspond to reality aims to create false grounds for the continuation of this illegal criminal case and to justify requests for detention as a preventive measure in court.
Instead of this disgraceful conduct of obvious political persecution, the Investigation Committee and the Prosecutor’s Office should have initiated criminal proceedings for illegal wiretapping, rather than becoming part of treasonous plans through illegalities or being ruthlessly utilized as a tool by those implementing those plans.
