Russia Establishes Full Control Over the City of Soledar

The city of Soledar is under the control of Russian military forces, according to the Russian defense ministry.

“As of the evening of January 12, the city of Soledar is under the control of Russian troops. The city is of significant importance for the continuation of successful offensive operations in the Donetsk direction,” stated the ministry.

It was also noted that the liberation of Soledar allows for the cutting off of supplies to Ukrainian forces located in Bakhmut.

“Establishing complete control over Soledar enables the disruption of supply routes for Ukrainian forces to the southwestern city of Bakhmut, subsequently encircling and ‘kettling’ the remaining units of the Ukrainian armed forces there,” the statement added.

Earlier, the Russian defense ministry reported that Russian air units had blocked Soledar from the north and south, with fighting taking place in the city itself by assault groups.
