Official Assessment of Damage to Buildings for Lighting Not Conducted: Ministry

No official assessment has been made regarding the potential damage caused to buildings due to the festive lighting in Republic Square, Yerevan. This was announced by Alfred Kocharyan, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, during a session of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports, in response to a question from Elinar Vardanyan, a member of the "Armenia" faction.

Vardanyan inquired about the extent of the damage inflicted on the historical and cultural monuments in the square due to the New Year decorations and whether they are subject to restoration.

“No official assessment has been conducted. The municipality has undertaken the obligation to carry out this process with minimal interference and has committed to addressing all issues that may arise as a result of these actions,” said the Deputy Minister.

Kocharyan also noted that he would refrain from qualifying whether damage had been caused, as this should be determined by specialists. The ministry will definitely be present during discussions with the organization implementing the project. “And we will find out how they will close the gaps that have opened up for securing the decorations,” Kocharyan added.
