Definitions of 'Doping' and 'Anti-Doping Activities' to Be Clarified in Armenia
Definitions of 'doping' and 'anti-doping activities' will be clarified in Armenia. This was stated today, January 13th, during a discussion on the draft law amending the Law on Physical Culture and Sports in the permanent committee of the National Assembly on science, education, culture, diaspora, youth and sports, by the committee chair, Sisak Gabrielian, a member of the Civil Contract faction.
The significance and powers of the national anti-doping organization in Armenia will also be defined. ‘In 2022, our athletes achieved unprecedented results. With these changes, everything will be done to prevent the disqualification of our athletes and to ensure that Armenia does not miss out on such positive outcomes,’ the parliament member noted.
The initiative to amend the law is driven by the necessity of implementing the principles and norms of international law, as well as the imperative to meet modern demands in the aforementioned sector. ‘Moreover, the World Anti-Doping Agency has requested the Armenian Anti-Doping Agency to initiate appropriate amendments,’ Gabrielian informed.
The government has supported this legislative initiative. After comparatively brief discussions, the parliamentary permanent committee gave a positive conclusion to this legislative initiative.
