China's Foreign Ministry Calls on the US and Japan to Abandon the 'Cold War' Mentality

Washington and Tokyo should abandon the 'Cold War' mentality and not disrupt stability in the Asia-Pacific region, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin during a press conference on Friday.

“We call on the US and Japan to abandon the 'Cold War' mindset and ideological bias, to stop creating imaginary enemies, to halt the new 'Cold War' thinking in the Asia-Pacific region, and not to disrupt regional stability,” the diplomat stated.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during a press conference with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, Japan's Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, and Japan's Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada, said that the US and Japan consider China to be the greatest strategic threat. He noted that the parties “agree that the PRC is the biggest strategic threat that we, our allies, and partners face.”

Hayashi, for his part, added that China poses an “unprecedented” challenge, but that Japan and China need constructive and stable relations for the peace of the international community.
