Call for a Thorough Investigation to Prevent Recurrence: MFA Spokesman to CSTO Secretary

RA MFA Spokesman Vahan Hunanyan responded to the comments from the CSTO Secretariat, stating: “CSTO member countries do not expect any understanding of their actions and decisions from the Secretariat.” In an interview with Radar Armenia, he noted: “The scope of the Secretariat’s authority, as the working body of the CSTO, does not include interpreting the statements of the members of the CSTO Collective Security Council, which is the organization’s highest body. CSTO member countries do not expect any understanding of their actions and decisions from the Secretariat.

The functions of the Secretariat are clearly defined in the CSTO statutory documents: 'The Secretariat is a working body providing organizational, informational, analytical, and advisory support to the activities of the Organization’s bodies. We call on the newly appointed Secretary General of the Organization to conduct a thorough investigation regarding the fact of the Secretariat’s commentary to prevent its recurrence.'

It is worth recalling that the CSTO had stated that they approach the situation created in Armenia with understanding, which does not allow for military exercises to be conducted.
