Poland's Plans Are an Aggressive Move Against CSTO, Wolkowicz
The Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, Alexander Wolkowicz, has described Poland's plans to deploy a new division near Belarus's borders as an aggressive step against the CSTO. He made this statement in response to a request from a BELTA correspondent regarding the Polish side's decision.
“How can this be interpreted other than as an aggressive policy and unfriendly attitude by Poland not only towards Belarus but also towards the Union State and, in general, the CSTO? Unfortunately, both Poland and the Baltic States are deliberately aimed at militarization, increasing the military component, military activity, the deployment of new units and formations, arming with new types of military equipment of an offensive nature rather than defensive. How can this be evaluated other than as a manifestation of aggression? Both reconnaissance flights and the number of exercises being conducted—all this cannot contribute to peace and security,” said Alexander Wolkowicz.
He emphasized that Belarus is certainly monitoring the situation developing near its borders. “The recent decision by the presidents of Belarus and Russia to establish a regional grouping of troops on Belarusian territory indicates that we are taking steps primarily for strategic deterrence, to ‘freeze’ the heads of certain Western politicians,” noted the Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus.
“The regional grouping of troops located on the territory of Belarus has an exclusively defensive orientation and aims to protect the borders of the Union State and, accordingly, the western borders of the CSTO,” Alexander Wolkowicz stated.
