Turkey's President May Meet with Syrian Counterpart Bashar al-Assad

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan may meet with Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad before Turkey's presidential elections, which are expected to take place in May, according to the Aydınlık newspaper referencing its sources.

“In the third phase of the normalization process, a meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is anticipated,” the publication noted, recalling that Erdoğan had previously stated they did not want to prolong the normalization process and indicated he could meet with Assad.

“It is presumed that President Erdoğan may meet with the Syrian president before the 2023 elections, which are expected to be held in May,” the newspaper reported.
