South Korean Defense Minister Apologizes
Five North Korean drones invaded South Korean territory on Monday morning. South Korea's Defense Minister Lee Jong-sop has apologized for the military's failure to shoot down the five North Korean unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that violated South Korea's airspace yesterday. This information was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the Yonhap agency.
Lee Jong-sop denied media speculation that one of the North Korean UAVs could have reached downtown Seoul, where the presidential office and the Ministry of Defense are located. The minister assured that the drone could not reach that area, and military personnel can confirm this with data from surveillance devices.
Earlier, it was reported that five North Korean UAVs had invaded South Korean territory on Monday morning. According to the military, these were small drones with a wingspan of 2 meters. In response, Seoul deployed fighter jets, helicopters, and UAV countermeasures. South Korean military personnel conducted a five-hour operation, firing nearly 100 rounds from helicopters at the drones; however, they were unable to hit them. The drones disappeared from radar.
South Korea will also provide an additional $3 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
