VIDEO: Cause of Fish Deaths in Fish Farms Revealed
The State Food Safety Service (SFSS) has conducted about 85 inspections and ongoing monitoring in fish farms during the second half of this year, carrying out sampling and laboratory tests to determine the reasons behind the deaths of fish in these facilities.
Georgi Avetisyan, the head of the food safety authority, stated in a conversation with journalists that they have been conducting checks on residual materials in fish meat for several years, sending data to the European Union to facilitate future exports of fish products to the EU market. He expressed hopes for positive feedback from the EU.
Avetisyan confirmed that a significant number of fish have died in fish farms, though the current death toll is much lower and not concerning. In response to recent reports about deceased fish being sold on the streets, he emphasized that it is imperative not to purchase food from the street, particularly fish.
“We know the cause of the deaths. There is no need for panic. The disease we have detected is absolutely harmless to humans. However, this does not mean that animal products can be purchased from the street,” he remarked.
According to Avetisyan, another significant issue in this sector is the sale of fish products from other countries under the label of Armenian fish products in Russia. The inspection authority has been instructed to prevent such occurrences.
