Zelensky Fails to Thank for 'New Year’s Gift'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not even attempted to thank ordinary Americans for the 'New Year’s gift' worth $45 billion, writes Bradley Devlin, a columnist for The American Conservative.
'Zelensky should remember that without the billions of dollars provided by American taxpayers, his government would become insolvent. However, instead of expressing gratitude, he is making new demands, while our politicians stand by and applaud him with shining faces,' the author asserts.
According to him, the entire 'performance' of the Ukrainian leader was an attempt to exert pressure on lawmakers. 'Zelensky arrived in Washington not in a suit but in military uniform and combat boots—a self-satisfied melodrama that characterizes Zelensky and his supporters since the beginning of the conflict. He is an actor and comedian who knows how to put on a show,' the columnist concluded.
Earlier, Zelensky had traveled to Washington to hold talks with U.S. President Joe Biden. On the same day, the White House announced a new aid package for Ukraine. It includes 500 precision-guided 155 mm artillery munitions, 37 Cougar armored vehicles, mines, several thousand grenade launchers and artillery systems, night vision optics and devices, body armor, satellite communications, and other equipment.
Amid the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the U.S. and its NATO allies have been supporting Kyiv with tens of billions of dollars in arms deliveries. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the supply of Western arms only prolongs the conflict, and the transfer of weapons becomes a target for the Russian military.
